Ross Estate

Ross Estate

The story of Ross Estate dates back to the end of the 19th century when it was a general farm with vineyards and a cemetery. In that cemetery lies William Jacob who, with his brother John, in 1885 established the Barossa Valley’s first vineyard and winery.

Current owners, Darius and Pauline Ross, fell in love with the 110 acre property in the early 90’s and invested in their life long passion for wine. Together, after years of hard work, they have created a splendid estate. Darius designed the Polish inspired winery and cellar door, surrounded by lawns and rose gardens.

With extensive knowledge from former winemaker Rod Chapman, current senior winemaker Neville Falkenberg, of Penfold’s fame, and budding young winemaker Alex Peel, Ross Estate Wines has set the benchmark for boutique winemaking and continually producing award-winning wines of outstanding and consistent quality.

Ross Estate Beekeeper's Blend 2010

The wine is a late harvest, medium-sweet style with a bright straw colour and attractive green tinges. The aroma is full of lime juice and apricots, with nuances of lemon zest and white peach and some tropical notes. On the palate, the initial sweetness is carried by tropical fruits, lemons, peach and pear flavours. The acidity of the wine balances this sweetness, giving it a crisp finish that makes this wine an excellent match to many foods. With time the wine will develop honey and buttered toast characters. Ideal to enjoy with friends anytime and a great complement to spicy Asian dishes, cheese platters or your favorite dessert.

Ross Estate Cabernet Sauvignon Cabernet Franc Merlot 2006 (Bordeaux)

The wine is a dark crimson red in colour, with brick red hues. The complex, intriguing nose displays briar fruits, raspberries and blackberries with an aromatic violet lift from the Cabernet Franc. Satsuma plums and berries meld with licorice, mocha and aromatic spices on the palate. This is the ultimate food friendly wine, with the tannin structure giving the finish an apparent sweet, juicy quality, that complements all ranges of cuisines.

Ross Estate Chardonnay 2008

The wine has a pale straw colour with brilliant green hues. Aromas of grapefruit and green lime greet you,  together with a mealy cashew nut overtone. The palate is mouthfilling and has abundant fruit flavour followed by a soft creaminess that lingers on well.  An excellent accompaniment to white meat dishes and Asian cuisines and with careful cellaring with improve for several years in the screw cap closure.

Ross Chardonnay Sauvignon Blanc 2009

The colour is pale straw with vibrant green hues that consume the glass. Tropical fruit and green bean characters are derived from the Sauvignon Blanc, which are well matched with the melon and citrus flavours from the unoaked Chardonnay. Ideally matched with alfresco meals, or just casual enjoyment with friends on the back deck under the Aussie sun.

Ross Estate Old Vine Grenache 2007

Ross Estate Grenache vines are up to 90 years of age and represent the oldest vines on the estate. These gnarled vines are dry grown and low yielding, but produce high quality grapes with concentrated flavours. The wine is an attractive deep crimson colour with ripe spicy cherry fruit aromas typical of the variety. Its palate structure is rich and warm with soft tannins. An authentic and traditional Barossa Valley style of wine.

Ross Estate Riesling 2010

Grapefruit, lime and nectarines on the nose complimented by a dry, well balanced palate with a crisp citrus finish.

Ross Estate Shiraz 2006

This gold medal-winning Shiraz is a hedonistic delight. With layer upon layer of flavour, it is beautifully balanced and for a wine of such concentration, so refined. There is a wonderful red fruit dimension over the plummy, mulberry core with violet highlights and lovely base notes ranging from wood-smoke through cocoa to exotic spices. Absolutely charming now, but it will get even better with time in the bottle.
