The
vineyard lies within Wahgunyah, in the Rutherglen region of North
East Victoria, a large diverse, wine growing region.
There are two vineyards. The original vineyard is our "Sunday
Creek" vineyard, which borders on the Murray River. When purchased
the property was 25 acres in size, and is now 55 acres. This
vineyard produces Chardonnay, Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Gamay,
Portuguese Port varieties (including Touriga nacional), Muscat,
Tokay, Frontignac and Pinot Noir.
The second vineyard is the "Carlyle" vineyard purchased in the
early 1990's, a neighbouring property. This vineyard is 25 acres in
size and is planted to Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, Merlot, Muscat,
Tokay and Cabernet Sanzey.
Winemaker Chris
Pfeiffer graduated from Sydney University in 1974 with a BSc. of
agriculture, majoring in horticulture. In the same year he began
work with Lindemans winery at Corowa, and commenced a five year
part-time course with the Riverina College of Advanced Education
(now Charles Sturt University), graduating in 1979 with a Bachelor
of Applied Science in Wine Science. During this six year period he
was offered and accepted positions at Lindemans Corowa and
Coonawarra wineries and also worked a vintage in the Hunter River
region, when he held a role in head office. When Lindemans moved
out of the Corowa district in 1980 he moved to the company's
Karadoc winery in Mildura as chief fortified winemaker, responsible
for production in Corowa, Mildura and the Barossa
Valley.
